Review: Damascena, Birmingham

There’s nothing quite like a Middle Eastern feast to satisfy an empty belly!

A short Uber ride from Birmingham city centre is Damascena – a buzzing coffee house and delicatessen serving platefuls of scrumptious food that are packed full of flavour.

My friend and I headed there after it was recommended to us and I’m so glad we made the effort. After a warm welcome we settled down to browse the menu with steaming cups of fresh mint leaf tea.

We finally managed to whittle our lunchtime selection down to: vine leaves stuffed with rice and herbs, quite possibly THE BEST mushroom soup I think I’ve ever tasted, falafel with a side of hummus, Fattoush (a salad including feta cheese and pomegranate) and Baba Ghanuuj (a roasted aubergine dish).

My stomach is grumbling at the thought of all that delicious food!

The great thing about Damascena is that most of the dishes are perfect to share meaning that if you want, you get to sample a little bit of everything. It also makes it a brilliant spot to visit with friends.

We were too stuffed to try any of the tempting cakes and pastries on offer but I’m certain they wouldn’t disappoint. I think there’s just going to have to be a next time…

You can check out the full menu for Damascena here.
